Privacy policy
This policy explains what data khwab.net ("khwab", "we", "us") collects when you use the site, why we collect it, and the choices and rights you have. We collect as little as we reasonably can.
Who we are
khwab is operated as an independent project. For anything in this policy, see Contact or email hello@khwab.net directly.
What we collect
- Account and journal data: if you create an account to save dreams or keep a journal, we store your email address, the dreams or notes you choose to save, and basic account metadata (like when you signed up). You control this data and can delete it at any time from your account or by asking us.
- Email (outside an account): if you subscribe or save a dream without creating a full account, we store the email address and the dream you were viewing, so we can send you the interpretation or updates you asked for.
- Anonymous analytics: we use privacy-respecting analytics (Google Analytics and, where enabled, PostHog) to see which pages are useful and how the site is used in aggregate. This data isn't tied to your name or used to identify you individually.
- Technical data: like most sites, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes standard technical information, such as IP address and browser type, to serve pages and protect against abuse. We don't use this to build a profile of you.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies: essential cookies that keep the site and your account working, analytics cookies that measure usage in aggregate, and, where advertising is enabled, advertising cookies set by Google and its partners (see "Advertising" below). You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may break sign-in or saved-dream features.
How we use your data
We use the data above to operate the site (show you your saved dreams, remember your sign-in), to respond to your messages, to understand which content is useful so we can improve it, and, where advertising is enabled, to support the free running of the site through ads. We do not use your data to train AI models, and we do not sell it.
What we don't do
We never sell your data. We don't share your email or journal entries with advertisers or other third parties, beyond the service providers (like our hosting and email-sending providers) needed to run the site, and they're bound to use your data only for that purpose.
Advertising & third-party ads
khwab may display ads served through Google AdSense to help support the site. Where ads are shown, Google and its advertising partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising through your Google Ads settings, or manage third-party ad cookies generally at aboutads.info/choices.
Data retention
We keep account and journal data for as long as your account is active, and delete it within a reasonable period after you ask us to or close your account. Anonymous, aggregated analytics data may be retained longer since it isn't linked back to you.
Children's privacy
khwab is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll remove it.
Your rights
Wherever you are, you can ask us at any time to access, correct, export or delete the data we hold about you. If you're in the EU/EEA or UK, this includes the rights available to you under GDPR; if you're in California, this includes rights available under the CCPA. Email hello@khwab.net and we'll action your request.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. Continued use of khwab after a change means you accept the revised policy.
